Rolling Through Vermont – Notches, Views & Small-Town Gold
There’s something about Vermont that just feels made for motorcycles. The mix of winding mountain passes, quiet backroads, and old-school charm makes it a dream for riders chasing that perfect ride. On this trip, it was aimed to slow things down, from our long haul in New Jersey, we explored the southern part of the state, and take in the kind of scenery that sticks with you long after the ride is over.
Kicking things off in Bennington, a chill little town with a strong sense of history. I stayed at the Best Western Bennington, which had everything we needed — hot breakfast, a comfy bed, and easy access to town and nearby roads. From there, we rolled over to the Bennington Battle Monument, a towering stone structure that’s hard to miss. It’s the tallest in Vermont, and the views from the top are killer.
From Bennington, we carved the way through the Green Mountains, taking full advantage of Vermont’s scenic byways. Route 9 — aka the Molly Stark Byway — led us east, twisting through the trees and opening up into some unforgettable overlooks. This road is packed with elevation changes and smooth curves — a must-ride if you’re in the area.
One of the best pit stops along Route 9 was the Hogback Mountain Country Store. Sitting at about 2,400 feet, it’s got panoramic views that stretch for miles. Grab a snack, breathe in the mountain air, and snap a pic — it’s that kind of place.
Further east, I stopped at the Vermont Country Deli in Brattleboro. Their mac & cheese is basically famous, and the sandwiches hit the spot. It’s quick, friendly, and full of Vermont-made goods if you're into that kind of thing.
